A mother, a 11 year breast cancer survivor, with son on the left,daughter-in-law with current stage 4 breast cancer on the right, who died in

The woman in the middle is me. I was diagnosed with Her2Nu positive breast cancer in late1993. The Her2Nu gene is an aggressive form of breast cancer. I underwent a lumpectomy, followed by chemotherapy, then radiation. I was in a breast cancer study and was lucky enough to get Herceptin, now known to help prevent metastasis with this form of breast cancer. My son stands on my right, your left. His wife is on the other side of me, wearing a hat to cover her bald head. She had a tiny breast cancer tumor about 4 years ago. It was the estrogen dependent type, and was treated only with seed radiation and estrogen suppression drugs. Spring of 2015, she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer, meaning it has metastasized. It is in her breast, chest wall, and liver. It will be fatal eventually, all that can be done is trying to manage it and hope a cure comes before she dies. She is undergoing chemotherapy at this time, which has shrunk the tumors, but radiation and surgery are not options. Releases can be obtained if necessary. Update, 2017. After another round of chemo, tumors are gone for the moment. April 15, 2019, lost the battle after cancer spread to bones and dura, the lining of the brain.
