There was an excellent attendance at the first club meeting in Horticultural hall following the summer recess. The committee on changes in the by-laws reported, and its recommendations will be acted upon at the October meeting. The picnic committee reported a com- fortable balance after paying all ex- penses. Resolutions on the death of A. F. Barney, drawn up by W. J. Ken- nedy, W. N. Craig and James Methven, were adopted, also similar tributes to Robert Montgomery, by S. J. Goddard, James Wheeler and Peter M. Miller, and to Elmer P. Morse, by John L. Russell, Peter Fisher and W. N. Craig. Seven new members were elected. Resolutions were unanimously adopt- ed commending the attitude of Gover- nor Coolidge and Police Commissioner Curtis in the Boston police strike, and pledging them the club's support. L. J. Renter showed Nephrolepis Macawii, which the exhibits committee honored with an award of merit. W. N. Craig received honorable mention for a collec- tion of peaches. He also showed Arte- misia lactifiora and Gladiolus primuli- nus seedlings. Herman H. Bartsch gave a most in- teresting account of his journey to and from Detroit and his experiences at the convention. He spoke of the great dif- ficulty experienced in securing hotel reservations, of the hospitality of the Detroit florists and of the fine work done at the convention. The assembly hall was, however, far from comfort- able. Visits to a number of
