Panamanian jumping spider Eris aurantia (family Salticidae) in mid-leap of jump onto prey cricket. The Salticids are a family of hunting spiders, named for their ability to jump from 2-20x their body length. They have very acute binocular vision, which allows the prey to be detected and also provides good accuracy when making jumps between twigs. Having detected their prey, they stalk it and gradually creep closer. Finally they jump the last few cms, from a standing start and grab hold of the prey with their forelegs.
