Reptiles were captured by hand and in can pit-traps. Visual observations of vertebrates were recorded, and many animals found dead along roads and high- ways were collected. In each of the 12 primary study areas, traps were arranged in a radiating pattern (Fig. 29). Two traps were placed at each station, with stations approximately 30 feet apart. This same procedure was followed in some cases in the secondary areas, although the traps usually were arranged in single-line transects or randomly.
