Neolithic settlement. Reconstructed round houses built from stone and mud bricks at the Choirokoitia site, near the southern coast of Cyprus. The reconstructions are based on the remains of walls that have been excavated here. This site dates to at least the sixth millennium BC. A latter period of occupation dates to the mid-fifth millennium BC, and the site was abandoned by the early 4th millennium BC. Choirokoitia has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998. At right are grinding stones, examples of Stone Age tools used to grind crops and other materials.
