View SE of west front, main entrance & truncated N end of Penarth Fawr Medieval hall house, Nr Pwllheli, North Wales, UK. Built around 1476 probably by Howel ap Madog (not in 1416 by his father Madoc of Penarth as previously thought). The W door opened into a screens passage (cross-passage) leading to an opposed doorway in the rear (E) wall. To the R is a buttery & pantry with chambers above accessed by an open stair. To the L of the screened passage was the central hall open to the roof. There were more service rooms & a solar (private upper chamber) on the N side of the hall but these were demolished in the C19th. Large foundation stones project from the base of the wall.
