Folliculostellate cells of pituitary gland, light micrograph

Folliculostellate cells of pituitary gland, light micrograph. In humans the best method to demonstrate folliculo-stellate cells is the immunohistochemical technique for the S-100 protein. As the image shows, these cells are located in the centre of the endocrine cell cords, emitting processes that are directed towards the surface of the cord, surrounding the hormone-secreting cells. Repeating the procedure with all the hormones, it is verified that none of them co-localizes with the S-100.
