The dress consists of a fold of cloth woundround the waist and held in place by a gaily patternedbelt; a bodice, and a large shawl fastened with a bigsilver topo or pin. A wealthy woman will wear silverornaments across the forehead, in the ears and on theneck in addition to the almost indispensable topo, andno Araucanian will sell these adornments from the per-son, although in hard times they may be taken to Araucanian Indian, the solid wooden wheel of the country cart.
