These pump to a Cochrane feedwaterheater, located on the turbine room floor near the center of theboiler room wall and midway between the turbines. The heaterhas a capacity of 4,000 A line is also carried from thehouse pumps directly to two vertical Dean boiler feed pumps withcylinders 10 & 14 x 24. All the piping is cross connected sothat either or both nay be used to supply any of the boilers. Prom the feed pumps two independent lines are carried to the boilers. One is regularly used to sppply water to the. -14- boilers, while the other serves both as an auxiliary and as aboiler wash line. The two sets of feed lines run independentlyto the sides of the boilers, where they are brought together byvalve connections and from here a single line enters the boiler. There are two 2,000 , three phase, 25 cycle CurtisSteam Turbines located at such a distance a part that the auxil-iary apparatus is placed between them. The turbines are placedon brick foundations built up from the basement floor to sucha height that the exhaust openings are just below the turbineroom floor. Each turbine is provided with independent auxiliarieswith the exception of the accumulator for the oil step bearingand the oil operated governors. Wheeler condensers are installedin the basement near the bases of the turbines. These have atotal cooling surface of 16,000 square feet. The circulatingwater is obtained from thirte
