In the smallest vessels, instead of the elastic elements, thereoccasionally occur, especially in the/. adventitia, fusiform cells, which canonly be regarded as undeveloped forma-tive cells of elastic tissue. Transverselystriped muscle is found only at the openings of the largest veins into the heart; whilst, on the con-trary, smooth muscles are extensively distributed, especially invessels of a medium size, and also to some extent in the largervessels.
