French Trench Mortar, 240MM, being prepared for transportation. It is equipped with a mounted piece, bomb, and cartridge. Captain Pease of the 316th Battalion Trench Art devised a method of using wheels to quickly set up the mortar. The first shot drives the spades into the ground, eliminating the need for constructing a rock base. Located in Vitrey, Vernois, France. Photograph taken by Sears, on January 15, 1919.
