Gas Holders at Bell Green, Sydenham, South London

The gas works at Sydenham opened in the 1840s with the development of London's suburbs and the news that the Crystal Palace was to move to Sydenham. The Crystal Palace and District Gas Company supplied the increased population until 1969. A large Sainsbury's store now occupies part of the site.
