Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris) taking air from the surface while swimming in a river. This herbivorous aquatic mammal inhabits shallow coastal waters and estuaries in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic Ocean and in the Gulf of Mexico. It is a subspecies of the West Indian manatee. Its population is in decline due to the threat of recreational watercraft. Photographed in the Crystal River, Florida, USA.
