WEAKENED by an agency which one expert claimed wascaustic embrittlement and another claimed was not, a com-paratively new water tube boiler exploded with tremendousviolence at the Crossett Lumber Company, Crossett, Arkansas, onMay 30th, killing one man and injuring four others. The explosiondemolished half the boiler house, wrecked a companion boiler com-pletely, and badly damaged a third. Property damage was estimatedat $150,000. The power plant was erected in 1922, and it not only served thesaw mills, planing mills and other properties of the company but, inaddition, supplied light and steam heat for the entire town.
