Coal is brought to the power house on the WesternMaryland Railroad, whose tracks are about 15 ft. abovethe boiler room floor, owing to the natural conformationof the ground. Chutes connect with bins of about 500tons capacity, and the coal falls directly from the cars intothe bins, or on to the boiler room floor, effecting consid-erable economy in handling. The water for the boilers is taken from two purifiers, orsettling wells, which have been due about 15 ft. from acreek running through the companys property.
