Foss. 40, fig. 2). It is found that the pro- portions of the whorls in this species differ from those of the May Hill Sandstone form. Raphistoma ? (or Helicotoma) macromphala, McCoy sp. Loxonema , sp. A large species, much like those from rocks of the same age in Sweden. Holopella , sp. These elongate Turritella-like shells are pro- bably members of the Pyramidellidse, not Litorinidce. Holopella monilis, McCoy. Cephalopoda (Tetrabrancluata). The shells allied to Nautilus are of the greatest variety and abundance in the slate rocks. Straight, curved, coiled, or involute, they exhibit every change of form which is ex- hibited in later formations by the Ammonite group. Orthoceras and its subgenera are the common forms in the Bala rocks, while Lituites, Trochoceras, and Phragmoceras, abound in Silurian strata. Numbers and Localities. Orthoceras vagans, Salter (Mem. Geol. Surv. III. p. 356, pi. 24, figs. 1—5). A common fossil with distant septa. It ranges to Portugal and Sweden. Orthoceras, smooth species. Orthoceras politum, McCoy (Quart. Joum. Geol. Soc, Vol. 7, pi. 10, figs. 5, 6). Orthoceras, smooth species, with closer septa than O. vagans above quoted. Orthoceras bilineatum, Hall, Pal. , t. 43, f. 2, 3 (Siluria, 3rd ed. p. 200).
