The Brazilian embassy, Plein and Plein1813, The Hague, The Netherlands. Wednesday 25th September, 2019. A small but very vocal protest was held in The Hague this afternoon to the sound of chainsaws amplified via a mobile sound system. The protest against the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest and, the lack of conservation by the government of President Jair Bolsonaro and the violence exhibited toward its indigenous population. A demand for the cancellation of the Mercosur treaty with Brazil (including the Netherlands). A petition was handed to the Brazilian ambassador followed by a short walk to the Plein in front of the House of Representatives. A short statement was handed to Dutch politician Esther Ouwehand for the Party for the Animals and was read to the protesters and concluded the event of the day.
