The University Senate, which accord-ing to the contract, is composed of nineteen mem-bers connected with the faculty of the New York Uni-versity, including as an advisory board, the President orother representative, first began its work of securing the onehundred judges by selecting eminent Presidents of Univer-sities, certain eminent scholars in American history, and afterthem a few men of science. By this time the Senate cameto the decision that it would be wiser to adopt a definitemethod for the selection of judges. Accordingly they madethe following regulations: First. They are apportioned to the following fourclasses of native born American citizens, in as nearly equalnumbers as possible: (a) University or College Presidentsand Educators; (b) Professors of History and Scientists;(c) Publicists, Editors, and Authors; (d) Judges of theSupreme Court, State or National.
