Two of the steam boilers are ofthe horizontal return tubular type, size72 in. by IS ft., each rated 150 „ andhaving grates 5 x 6 ft. The other twosteam boilers are Sterling water-tubeboilers, each rated at 250 , and hav-ing grates 8 x 6 ft. The two boilersfor the hot water heat are of the hori-zontal return tubular type, size 66 in x16 ft., each rated 125 , and having agrate surface 5 x 5 ft. The steam boilersare fed with water from a open feed-water heater by twoduplicate Worthington duplex 6x4x6- in. pumps. During the more moderatecold weather only one of the hot waterboilers is fired for the reheating ofwater, and two of the boilers are firedfor the generation of steam. The steamboilers besides furnishing steam to theradiation also supply steam for the op-eration of circulating and vacuumpumps and one fan engine, whichdrives the fan for the inducted draftsystem, as this method is used in theplant rather than natural draft. Thefan for inducted draft is of the Sturte-vant make. It is 72 in. in diameter, and is driven at an average of by a 10 engine, direct connectedto it. Coal and ashes are handled by ahand car conveyor.
