Frankie Manning at The Swing Jam 2005 Frankie was the only living survivor of the famous dance group called the Whitey's Lindyhoppers in the 1930's and was featured in the film Helzapoppin. Frankie choreographed many dance moves including the first aerial, also known today as air steps. Frankie worked with many great stars including Count Basie, Chick Webb, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway. The last few years of his life was spent teaching lindyhop to his dance followers, an inspiration to all who knew him and has played a huge part in the revival of swing dancing. Frankie died at the age of 94 having taken suddenly ill with pneumonia on April 27th 2009 at New York's City Lenox hospital.
