Zhang Heng's seismometer (replica)
A modern model of Zhang Heng's apparatus for detecting earthquakes. When triggered a ball would drop from one of eight dragon's heads into the mouth of a corresponding metal toad positioned around the urn, indicating the direction of movement. The model is from the Science Museum's collections.
