The Lonsdale Commonwealth War Graves Commission British Cemetery of the First World War, Thiepval, Somme,France


Lonsdale cemetery was named after the Earl of Lonsdale who recruited a Pals Battalion the 11th Border regiment. They attacked the Liepzig salient on 1 July was one of the new battalions raised by Lord Kitchener, and called Pals because men from the same city or town, and sometimes profession fought together.
