Hurricane Katrina clean-up. Workers clearing trees from damaged power lines in the historic district of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA, after hurricane Katrina. This small town is around 105 kilometres north of the Gulf of Mexico coast, but it is a poor area, and many buildings were destroyed and power lines were cut. Katrina was a category four hurricane when it hit the Gulf coast of the USA on 29th August 2005. It left a huge trail of damage and many hundreds lost their lives. Katrina is thought to have been the most costly natural disaster in US history at the time.
