1888 the el-kantara gorge
El Kantara is a town and commune in Biskra Province, Algeria. As of 1911, Baedeker described it as "one of the most important caravan-stations in E. Algeria." The gorge that traveled through the area was described by locals as the "Mouth of the Desert"
