The members of the Orders of St. Dominicand St. Francis were welcomed by the Republicin Florence and accorded special honors; to theFranciscans were intrusted the care of the Hos-pital of the Misericordia—that charitable organ-ization for the care of the sick and the dying 32. The Saints. still existing and including in its roster princeas well as peasant—and the custody of the urnused in the election of the magistrates; while aDominican as well as a Franciscan was accordeda seat on the Ringhieri during public affairs ofstate.
