Employment. Large provision is made, in all these buildings,of floors and space for employment, under cover, with good andsufficient light, convenience, and supervision. In many old buildings, PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS. 327 there lias not been employment, because there was no place suitablefor it. This difficulty has received great consideration, and everyeffort has been made entirely to remove it, so that all the inmates ofthese buildings should be kept out of idleness, which is the mother ofmischief.
