At the same time another schemewas framed for a school of lower grade, whichwas started in the old premises in Camden Street,under the name of the Camden School. MissBusss own school was moved to Camden Road,and its title changed to the North London CollegiateSchool for Girls, the last word being a sign ofmore democratic days. The connection betweenthe two schools has been maintained to the presentday. Both are governed by the same Board,and there are numerous scholarships leading. Some of the mostdistinguished old pupils of the North Londonhave received their earlier training at the CamdenSchool. As the scheme had been drawn up in agreementwith the opinions of the Endowed Schools Com-mission, Miss Buss had hoped that an endowmentwould be forthcoming for new buildings. But,though £60,000 had been easily raised for the newboys school in Cowper Street, it took three yearsof energetic effort on the part of Miss Buss, Grey, Miss Ridley, and others to gettogether £700 for the North London. Publicopinion was not sufficiently advanced to careabout education for girls. The fees under thenew scheme met current expenses only, leavingnothing for rent, &c. The annual deficit thuscreated was met by the headmistress, who volun-tarily resigned part of her income. Those wereweary and anxious years, an
