5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (May 31, 2017) Capt. Peter Nilsen, commanding officer of the guided-missile cruiser USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), oversees operations from the bridge wing during a replenishment at sea (RAS) with the fast combat support ship USNS Supply (T-AOE-6). Philippine Sea, part of the George Bush Carrier Strike Group, is deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations designed to reassure allies and partners, and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
