The Bodhi Tree ('tree of awakening'), also called the Bo Tree, is a large sacred fig tree in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India. It is here that Gautama Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment in c. 500 BCE. The Bodhi Tree has since entered religious iconography, recognisable by its heart-shaped leaves.
