BROWNELLS ACCELERATOR. FOR some time past President Charles T. Yerkes,of the North Chicago Street Railroad Companj^,has had running on his cable lines, the car accel-erator, invented and patented by F. B. Brownell. Thisis the car which was built and exhibited at the StreetRailway Convention, at Pittsburg, by the Brownell CarCompanj-, of St. Louis, and since the close of the con-vention has been in severe daily use in Chicago. Howsatisfactory that service has been is best indicated by thefact that Mr. Yerkes has purchased the right to use thepatent for the construction of the car for both the NorthChicago and West Chicago Street Railroads. The factthat Mr. Yerkes is well known to be conservative andcareful in adopting new devices, is a strong recommenda-tion of the car, which, during its use in Chicago, hasattracted much attention, and complimentarj^ notices fromrailway managers, the public and the press. At the suggestion of Mr. Yerke
