It liesin a circular and pleafingly irregular form roundthe harbour, and ornamented with fpires, abovewhich the Monument of Beacon Hill rifes, whichis now, however, overtopped by the new StateHoufe. On the bafe of the Monument are in-fcriptions, commemorating some of the moftremarkable events of the late war. Beacon Hillis the higheft ground on the peninfula, and affordsa delightful and extenfive profpect. The Commonbelow it contains about forty-five acres alwaysopen to refrefhing breezes; on its eaft fide is theMall, a very pleafant walk about 500 yards inlength, adorned with rows of trees, to which an9 [addition.
