In some few instances, however, asfor example at Colchester, the keep is the only part now 238 CIIRISTIAX ARCHITECTURE. standing, and it is probable that when originally builtthese Norman castles were not much encumbered with out-buildings. Rochester Castle is a line example of a Xormankeep, though it has sutfered much from decay and injury.
