Amoxicillin antibiotic drug. 21-capsule blisterpack of 500 mg capsules of the antibiotic drug amoxicillin. This drug is a penicillin antibiotic classed as a beta-lactam antibiotic. It works by attacking the cell walls of bacteria, though some bacteria can develop resistance to this antibiotic, requiring it to be taken with clavulanic acid. It is used to treat a range of infections, and is often prescribed for use in children. It was introduced in 1972 by the British pharmaceutical company Beecham. These capsules are a generic form of the drug, produced by the multinational pharmaceutical company Medreich.
