Part of Philadelphiawas annexed Nov. 2, 1816, and a part taken off Oct. 29, 1829, and addedto Sherburne. The tirst settlement was made soon after the town was organized March 30, 1789. Iron ore is found in and South Chittenden. Clarendojt, in the central part of the county, fifty miles from Montpe-liei^ six miles from Rutland, and seventy miles from Burlington, was char-tered by New Hampshire, Sept. 5, 1761, to Caleb Willard and others, em-bracing
