The hand is large, and armed with a strong sharp tooththat projects from near tlie middle of the lower or posteriormargin, the apex cf which reaches to a line with the palm,from which it is separated by a deep excavation, the anteriormargin of which is directed in a line parallel with the anteriormargin of the propodos. The palm is straight, furnishedwith five small broadly based denticles. The dactylos reachesbeyond the palm, but does not extend to the extremity of thethumb-like tooth of the hand. OPIS LEPTOCHELA, Specific character. Upper antennre with the two hasal joints large ; lowerantennae half as long again as the upper. Both jjairs of gnathopoda minute,slender, and subequal. Length, about one-fourth of an inch. The cei:)halon is small, not produced anteriorly. Thesegments of the pereion and pleon are dorsally subequal inlength ; the fourth segment of the pleon having a deep notch onthe dorsal surface. The eyes are small and round. The firsttwo joints of the superior antennte large ; the llagelluni short;secondary appendage short. The inferior antennse are slender,being half as long again as the superior. Coxie deep.
