Ecstasy pill. View of an ecstasy pill. Ecstasy is a slang name for 3,4- methylenedioxymethamphetamine. It is used as a drug to produce a feeling of euphoria and confidence, and has been known to cause mild hallucinations. Ecstasy is most often produced and taken in pill form, as seen here. The drug itself is not addictive, but short term risks include overheating and the possibility of toxic contaminants in the pill itself. A relatively new drug, its long term effects are not well known, although brain damage has been cited as one possible risk.
