St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad. The American Locomotive Company has recently deliveredfrom its Schenectady works an order of ten 10-wheel locomo-tives for the St. Louis and San Francisco Railroad to whichan interesting application of the Walschaert valve gear hasbeen made. This order follows a previous one of five enginesof exactly the same dimensions which were equipped with theStephenson valve gear. Since this last order has been de-livered another small order to the same specifications hasbeen made. These locomotives are for heavy passenger and fast freightservice on divisions where there are numerous grades fromone to one and a half per cent., and the service to date isreported as being very satisfactory in every way.
