SHARIFF AGUAK, Philippines, 12th May, 2013 -- Filipino soldiers onboard armoured carrier personnel patrol along the highway in the southern Philippine town of Shariff Aguak in Maguindanao, May 12, 2013, a day before the holding of mid-term elections nationwide. The military raised the red alert in the region as the Commission on Elections deputized them to secure the political process. In the past, Philippine elections have been marred by violence and corruption, but this year, President Benigno Aquino's government has enforced several measures in an effort to curb the bloodshed.
