Nineteenth century drawing of the full moon from a photograph made by Warren de la Rue (1815 -89), the British astronomer and physicist who was a pioneer of celestial photography. He perfected the technique of making stereoscopic photographs of the Sun and moon and invented the photoheliograph to map the Sun's surface photographically. He was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1850 and became President of the Royal Astronomical Society.
