There has passed away from our midst one who willcertainly not die in the memory of his old pupils andfriends; one who^ more than any other teacher of our time,has attached himself to our school; one whose monumenthas essentially been raised in the affectionate memory ofstudents, and whose influence will not pass away with him. As one who has been closely connected with him as pupil,colleague, and friend, I feel it indeed an honour to havebeen asked to contribute some short account of him, his life,his work, his influence and character.
