They have co- operated, wherever possible, with governmental or private fire-protec- tive agencies, with beneficial results which, a few years ago, might have been thought impossible. Reports indicate that, in many sections, settlers' clearing fires are the most serious source of fire dan- ger. The experience of this year indicates the extreme importance of controlling this hazard, through the strict enforcement of existing legis- lation in Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and British Columbia, and the enactment and enforcement of similar legislation in Ontario. Society's Debt To the Settler. The appalling result shows how ur- gent is the need of establishing and rigidly en-forcing the very strictest laws on the subject of bush fires. Community Interests.
