The Boyds came to Fayette coun-BOYD ty from the Shenandoah valley of Virginia, the family seat beingnear Winchester. They were an influentialfamily, and of frequent mention in Virginiarecords. He bore a commission as jus-tice of the peace, dated 1792. He was a manof education, and held high positions in thetownship. He was a slave owner, and broughtwith him from Virginia several slaves, and sixnegro children were registered as having beenborn to these between 1795 and 1809. Hedied in i8j2 and was buried on the homesteadfarm. He married and had issue: Thomas,John, Robert, James, William, Jeremiah anda daughter. The eldest son, Thomas, m-herited the homestead, and died in died in 1857. Robert, of further men-tion. James died in Tyrone township. Wil-liam moved to Ohio. Jeremiah became aphysician
