HAMPTON CO., 17 Battery Place, New York, N. Y. addition was built in the rear of the 4-Btory building owned and occupied ex- clusively by this corporation. It af- fords about forty per cent more space for the filling of orders and handling of stock in the shrubbery department. Foundations strong enough to carry three more stories have been laid, so that eventually the old and new build- ings will have the appearance of a single init. It seems as though a continuous build- ing program was on at this seed house. In 1916 the first unit, two stories in height and 60 x 140 feet, of reinforced cone ret e construction, was built. At that time it, was thought by the mem- bers of the'firm that this unit would eare for about three or five years' needs. But ill 1918 two more stories had to be added. It seemed as though this would take care <»f several years' growth, but the closing of the war brought such an increase to the business of the shrub and bulb department that the 1-story addition last summer became an abso- lute necessity. The output of this concern has been confined to seeds in packets and mailing sizes of bulbs, shrubs, roots and vines. Modern equipment has been installed, 80 that orders may be filled with as little delay as possible. This includes eight Brown bag-filling machines. The United States Postal Department keeps employees on the premises who cancel stamps and route all packages direct to the trains instead of through the Cleve- land postofBco. This in itself is a sav- ing of time for the customers of the house, as one handling of mail is elimi- nated. SEVEN POINTS OF SEEDSMAN. Charles A. Heath, p
