While gold is still the leading mining product, its yield no longerputs the greatest gold-producing county in the first place. The petro-leum of Kern County and the copper of Shasta give them is more widely distributed than any other substance thus farmined in California; 34 counties out of the 57 in the State showing agold yield in 1905, and it is known to exist in several others.
