The son, in early manhood, follow-ing his own inclinations, obtained an ensignscommission in a provincial regiment during thewar between France and England, in which thecolonies bore an honorable part, and which wasterminated by the peace of 1763, and the ces-sion of the French province of Canada to GreatBritain. Carver narrowly escaped massacre atFort William Henry; and the peace found himcaptain of a company.
