Unionist soldiers in a Confederate battery (protected with sand bags) south of Yorktown after the gun in the foreground is a 32-pounder Navy gun and the further one is a 24-pounder siege gun. The Siege of Yorktown was fought from April 5 to May 4, 1862. The battle was inconclusive as the Conferderate forces pulled out of their positions by night, escaping intact to Williamsberg.
