This view of the Moon Embracing Pavilion and the Jade Belt Bridge in Heilongtan Park, and with Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (Yulong Xueshan) behind, in Lijiang, Yunnan province, China, is a highly iconic Chinese view both for the Chinese and more generally around the Far East, and yet is little known in the West. At over 5000 metres (16000 feet) high, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is permanently snow-capped, and in fact marks the most southerly permanent snow in China. The town of Lijiang is an important cultural centre for the Naxi people and has a beautifully preserved old town quarter. As a result, it is one of southwest China's most important tourist centres.
