Cork, Algarve
Cork, is the name of the bark of the cork oak tree. Before the tree is ready for harvesting it must be allowed to mature for at least 25yrs. The bark is peeled away from the trunk by hand and 20% of the bark is left on the tree to stop it from drying out. Environmentally friendly; the cork oak tree flourishes for up to 250 years; and does not suffer damage, when the cork is peeled off.
