Vercingetorix Before Caesar
in 52 , the Gauls under Vercingetorix made a valiant stand against the Romans under Julius Caesar at Alesia in central Gaul, present-day France. Caesar's siege—some of his fortifications are seen here—resulted in the Gauls' surrender. In this early 1900s engraving, Vercingetorix is pictured, as the accounts not,e riding his horse to the Roman camp to officially surrender to Caesar.
