Of those in the House during the year, 94 havebeen employed at shoemaking; 13 at knitting boyssocks for home use, and 13 have^ been employed invarious domestic operations, 5 of them being girlsemployed in the House of Industry. The boys haveearned ^1320 100, making 66,653 pairs of shoes andknitting 207 pairs socks. The boys are in school four hours in each day,and labor six hours. In compliance with law and usage, the Directorsof the Houses of Industry and Reformation presentthe following statements of Expenditures and Re-ceipts, and of the numbers, condition, and employ-ment of the inmates of both departments for theyear ending 31st March, 1848. The amounts show that the gross expenditure forthe year has been, ,^41,; and the receipts,arising from sales of vegetables and oakum, boyslabor and other sources, ^5,, have been paidinto the City Treasury. For the year ending Nov. 1,1847, the bill against the Commonwealth for thesupport of State Paupers, ^^11,, has also beenpaid to the City Treasurer.
